Radio installations

The mobility of modern society requires an increasing number of wireless means of communication. Mobile radio services, Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and the opportunities offered by digital terrestrial TV (T-DVB) are examples of this.

The services offered competitively on these markets require fixed radio equipment to ensure a geographically complete coverage for customers as a necessary prerequisite for mobile communication.

It is the responsibility of the Federal Network Agency to not just provide radio frequencies and to ensure interference-free radio communication, but also to monitor if the radio equipment adheres to the limit values for the safety of people exposed to electromagnetic fields.

Any radio equipment must emit electromagnetic waves (fields) in order to fulfil its role as a radio bridge. The Federal Network Agency monitors radio equipment on the basis of existing laws and ordinances, which in turn are based on internationally recognised recommendations and guidelines.
